Spoke to transport SA today, asked about putting new engine into Brumby. The guy said a Std 2.2L is easy, for the 2.2L EFI you need to keep the ECU exposed so they can tell its not aftermarket.

In both cases you just need to fill out a form and let them know what you are doing. The lists of allowed engine swaps aren't published, but you can call them on 13 0088 2248 and ask them whether you can do what you want.
