Subaru XT Coupe

Post by Bantum » Tue Nov 24, 2015 10:21 pm

Found someone with a creative licence who redrew this Vortex Ute :

Disclaimer : Sorry don't know who drew this ...

And this is my take on it :

Image

If anyone one wants to accurately build it, let me know & will do some more sketches ... :p

As far as doing the 'mod' for this I think it would be relatively easy : Remove the back seats, boot & turn it into a tailgate ( Optional to make a hard cover version ). Cut the roof just behind the B pillar, then slide the rear window forward until it meets the back of B pillar + cut the side windows down to fit. Knock up some inner panels for the tray, then form up some ‘tube rails’ to go round the tray edges, turning up & over with a ‘roll bar’ somewhere near the B pillar, paint it red, and lastly put a few spotties on it.

Bob’s your Uncle … :)

Cheers, Bantum ...

Note : images should work now ...

I like the look of the ute, but knowing how they are put together... once that back sill was modified the rear of the car would probably fold up. unless there was major reinforcing put into the cut at the B pillar and a full chassis rail run under the length of the floor pan.

Once again a great concept idea.

Open Rear End

Post by Bantum » Wed Dec 23, 2015 2:53 am

Finished drawing up the rear end opening :

A few notes on this : Hinge for tail gate would need to be reinforced from behind & some sort of support to stop it from dropping down too far. The bar around the edge of tray could be 2x2" square box section shaped / rolled to suit. A smaller section used as spacers / connectors to frame ( I'd leave enough room to get your fingers in gap ) Removable hard top & latches not shown for clarity ...

Had to go back & reload all the images ( stupid Photobucket ) ...

On another note I might have a lead on someone who has a XT that may be willing to cut up / experimenting on.
Will get back you when I know more ... :)

Thanks for reloading the pics Bantum. It looks pretty unique! It would probably be better looking than the original Vortex. Yep, I said it!
