Brumby steering rack assembly into L wagon?

Post by AccidentallyTim » Thu May 30, 2013 4:00 pm

Hi,

Can anyone clear this up for me please.

Will a steering rack assembly from a Brumby fit into a L wagon

New to the scene and this seems like a good place to ask stupid questions anonymously and learn something along the way :p

Cheers

I think you will find the rack will physically mount up to the engine crossmember. I know that typically MY/L different is that the rack ends between the rack and the outer tie rods are not interchangeable coz one is male, the other, female at the rack end so the rack ends need to stay with the rack. Maybe the L rack ends can be cut shorter by a few threads to allow correct alignment.

I seem to recall MY and L tie rods are different

Thanks Septoe,

Gives me something to go on.

Just about everything is documented on here but I'll still be asking plenty of questions.

Also there doesn't seem to be a great range of 2nd hand L parts in Tas that I can find but I'll keep looking.

You might have trouble with the steering linkages... only one way to find out, but it's a lot of work to get to that point!
