Water under the bridge, it wasn't until the second time I visited this post that I realised what you were talking about!

All good, it turned out very well for my mate that's now cruising around in a liberty - it had a chipped 1st gear! Guess what fixed it... :D

Actually I should still have that centre diff laying around somewhere, I'll dig it up and see what condition it's in if you're interested.

Cheers

El Freddo, I could be keen, i'll let you know.

Saturday I went for a drive to Elizabeth u-pull it and busted a drive shaft on the way. The only two libs there were auto.

Opened some mail that was at mum's house on Sunday, turns out i've lost my license. All car projects will be on the back burner for at least three months. It's the worst situation, The only reason i'm not entitled to a good behavior option with one point for a year is because the day they decided to print my disqualification letter my license was expired because i hadn't renewed it yet. Spoken to everyone and there's nothing I can do, no one cares and everyone's a jerk.

With the front drive shafts, they have to be the MPFI version if you have an awd gearbox yeah? I called CBC yesterday but couldn't remember which one I needed.

Cheers,

Jake.

Or the MPFI manual touring wagon drive shafts, same spline count (25) as the turbos and EJ AWD gearboxes, just that the turbo's inner joint is larger.

Or you should be able to use the inner joint from a liberty shaft - only problem is finding out if the spline counts on the cage are the same between the joints.

Cheers for the info. Still haven't replaced it, I'm heading to Vic the week after next so i should probably get around to doing it. Gotta do a decent service too.

I was poking around in my shed today and found a spare speedo cable i forgot i had so I'll probably chuck that in this weekend. It hasn't worked since i did the conversion and only decided recently that it's probably important.

Went to the Central U-Pull It yard today, two leone's both front wheel drive, one MPFI. No Libs. I've got my eye on a Gen 2 AWD box at the moment. Will the transfer case from that bolt onto my Gen 1 box or would I be better off bolting the whole thing to the EJ?

Now that I've sorted out that datto i've got a lot planned for the subes in the near future so hopefully it starts coming together.

Going to back to six stud so i can put some 15"s on and hopefully make some 235 75's fit. I think Alex had something similar on his wagon?
Going to try and get a snorkel happening, bash plate, installed a second hand CB with a shot transmitter thing in it so i have to get that fixed, second battery hasn't worked in a long time, central locking hasn't worked in a long time, spare wheel carrier, that sort of thing. Turn it into a 'nice' pig.

Gave them both a wash the other day

And with the whole license thing, I can't 'lose' it unless i hand it back so I'm going to see how long i can ride that wave for until i work some shit out. Spoke to my boss, no license = no job so that's pretty sweet I guess. Going to be riding my pushbike to stack shelves to pay my mortgage, good times.

I was speaking with a guy from service SA and I could have been caught speeding up to 14km over the speed limit ELEVEN times and still have not lost my license, but instead i get done for on the phone twice, red arrow and no seatbelt and BAM, 12 demerits.

Rubbish.

Cheers,

Jake.

Really it comes down to what ever is easier for you to do. If the Gen2 box is the same diff ratio as the rear gearbox it's probably easier just to swap the gearbox than swap the rear casing.

But if you still want to swap the casings I'm 99% sure it'll bolt in without an issue.

Is it just the gearbox that determines the ratio and not the transfer case? ie. a transfer case from a 3.7 will bolt to a 3.9 box with no problems?

Jake.

It's the diff (final drive) ratio that determines what ratio the gearbox is... The rear casing with the centre diff is pretty universal until the later gearboxes where things may have changed.

Sweet as, I ended up getting that box for $70, didn't have time on my trip to pick it up though so it's at my grandparents house in Shepparton, don't know when i'm going to get it.

On my way back the outer CV on the front finally snapped on the Adelaide side of Tailem Bend after me wrestling with the steering for most of the trip. Had to get a mate to come up with a car trailer to get it home. Blew out the arrival time by about 4 hours. I've been messing around with a few old CV's i had for a couple of weeks because I thought I could sort something out between three of them, got to last bit of fitting the inner knuckle and it didn't fit on the shaft - should've done some research first. Ended up buying a new one from SA Suspension for $166 and fitting it on thursday, also managed to tear a power steering boot in the process so i have to fix that.

In regards to my licence, Service SA have forwarded my details to the "Sherrif's Office" but I still haven't been contacted. I can still drive just my account is frozen so I can't register cars so that's pretty cool.

My Datto ran out of rego so i'm now replacing the BRAND NEW engine mount i put in two months ago because it's already snapped, another cool thing.

Got some s13 struts to play around with to folloew in Guyph's footsteps

1 step forward, 2 steps back

Cheers,

Jake

it's been a while...

car has been sitting in the shed for like 6 months with the rear shocks out because i'm trying to so the s13 suspension thing guyph did, they're dampener adjustable shocks and for some reason i thought it'd be cool to mess around with

not sure if anyone else has done it successfully and documented it but here's my story

had to move it out the way today to get the datto out of the rain so i just wacked a shock in so i could roll it down the garage

so this is my attempt at the ghetto 'just incase' clamp

here's one next to the stock s13 setup, i had to compress the springs lots to get it all to fit and they bulge like crazy so i'm thinking i should cut a loop off? they're just the stock l springs that came with the car.

here's what the stock setup with 3" lift bracket on the left side looks like under load

and this is the 13 shock and spring with no bracket under load on the right side, i thought maybe the bulge would straighten out once i put them in

also so the bottom eyelet is larger on the 13 shocks so i need to press the subaru one out and put it in or something,,, it's all getting too hard. looks like it'll sit pretty good once i get it sorted properly and both side in

gearbox is now in my shed and doesn't look like it'll be moving any time soon

the datto is going strong and i'm looking into historic rego for it at the moment because $230 a quarter is way too much for a weekend car,,,

cheers,

jake

Awesome Datto!

I don't fully understand what this s13 suspension thing is. Keen to know more.

Looks like the spring isn't seating properly causing the buldge :(

thanks!

yeah i dunno i came across a cheap set and had seen it done before so decided to give it a crack, ultimately i'm after more clearance in the back because once it's full of junk it scrubs out,,, and i think the dampener thing will be cool to fiddle around with/see what i can get out of it.

not sure how i could get it to seat properly? i think its just that there's so much strain on the whole thing that the rubbers are squishing out one way or something

now i'm wondering if chopping a loop of the spring will fix that or not

That is looking very good, you have done very good work, the paint work on springs looks good. at least that is less expensive then buying new one... Good sharing, thanks for sharing.

alright so i went to u pull it today and got some new springs and a few other strut top components i was missing and ended up with this

the springs i took of another L were a bit taller and a thinner guage

so they're looking better but i still need to sort out the bottom eyelet thing, the s13 ones are a tad bigger, don't know if i can just sleeve something in there or press the things out and swap them over,,,

cheers,

jake

so here's the s13 eyelet

ATTACH]4124

here's the sleave cut down to the same length as the stock subaru one

to stop it sliding around do think i can put a couple of tacs or is welding a shock a big no no?

cheers

You need to find sleeves that fit thats the best solution. you can tac them but I wouldn't as shockies can go bang when mixed with welders. (very rare but they can do it) you other alternative is a shim between the sleeve and the eyelet.

the sleeve fits in that it doesn't move up and down and it's the right size to fit to the car, its that the s13 eyelet thing is thinner, so i need to stop it from sliding left and right along the sleeve. i could pack it out with washers but their inside diameter would have to be bigger than the sleeve which is about 20mm

cheers

edit:

but not bigger than the s13 eyelet because it's surrounded by a bush that would just chew out, and it couldn't be as big as the outer casing because it wouldn't sit properly where it mounts to the car
