Brumby lift gearshift mod

Post by Dougz » Sun Jun 11, 2006 5:28 pm

Any suggestions on the best way to modify the gearshift and 4wd selector for a three inch lift on the brumby so that it doesnt foul. Though I would ask before I stuff it up..

I am not sure what you will foul onto anything. Is this a 4 speed box or a 5 speed?

I did the 5 speed with 3" lift, it required the floor mounting bolt to go forward with the levers connected. Might be the same for the 4 speed, as it is simliar in shift lever set up.

Its a four speed and it is fouling. I have the lift in and when you try to put it in reverse it is fouling on the 4wd selector. The 4wd selector is also fouling as it is being pulled downwards and is hitting the plastic console.

Dougz, I suggest unbolting all floorpan gear mounting for both levers. Let it hang, then swing it up to its natural position against the floorpan. If the bolt holes dont line up, dont panic, this is where it wants to be!

You have the choice of remounting the levers in situ by drilling new holes, or extending the levers. Good luck!

not going to to work on the 4spd, in the 2" lift for my wagon we bent the 4wd selector to alow it to clear, as for the shifter i cant really help with that because with 2" there is just enough room to let it clear,
prehaps cut the leaver and re weld it at a different angle?

schultzie, sorry to mislead you. I re-read my post, and yes, you may have to bent the shift lever back a bit if it interferes with the radio etc.

What i meant with extending levers, was meant to be extending linkages!

Thanks guys, I worked out that the gear lever needed to be cut and reangled. Got that done and found that I didnt need to touch the 4wd selector as it just sits a bit higher when in 2wd, which I think is better anyway. Took a photo of the rewelded part before I put it back in if anyone needs to do this modification in the future.
Cheers
