L series rear suspension (or track width) into MY

Post by stenno » Wed May 16, 2012 4:22 pm

Anyone succesfully done this?

Im trying to run "L" width in the rear to match "L" front arms and width on the front of an MY (brumby) and later coilover rear shocks (gen 3 liberty). No Lift and i would like to avoid needing a custom fuel cell otherwise id shorten impreza control arms to match L CV shafts then use a complete wrx suspension and "Build" shock towers to match the rear shocks and fabricate trailing arm mounts.

Looking at the two side by side there is approx 35mm extra width each side in the L series rear end compared to MY.
I considered cutting the L series body mounts off the crossmember and welding on MY body mounts off the torsion bar but the diff mount height is different enough that the diff itself would be mounted higher and foul the fuel tank. plus the "moustache" bars and chassis brackets are differnt to allow for the Diff location.

Other options:
* MY torsion bar using a 35mm taped spacer (bolt through from both sides, remove nuts welded on trailing arms) for camber adjustment / alignment on the outer torsion arm, move inner mounts 35mm outwards on torsion bar.
* Custom arms off the torsion bar with a bend 35mm outwards to retain "stock" trailing arm mounting points/ position and inner mounts moved 35mm outwards along the torsion bar.

Any ideas? or significant suspenion differences / improvements / geometry that i have overlooked?

thanks
