Will a ej20 long motor fit in a 92 Liberty

Post by guyph_01 » Fri Feb 10, 2012 3:42 pm

Hi guys,

I've swapped over long motors before from the gen2 ej22 to the gen1 ej22 or even swapped a ej18 in an impreza with a ej16.

When i say swap i separate the top manifold from the engine and bolt it on the other good one so everything can still plug in and work.

I'm wandering if anyone knows if i can do the same with a 99 ej20 off a forester, Bolt on the 92 gen1 lib top manifold for it to work?

Thx

Have a look at the bolts that hold the manifold to the heads, you'll more than likely find they are offset whereas the pre-99 are in a straight line so old manifold won't fit 99> 8 bolt motor without swapping heads.

yep Tom is right, the heads are different and so is the manifold. you would need a set of EJ22 heads and a head gasket kit to get it to work.
