Heya Peeps

Post by munyac » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:21 pm

Hi Everyone,

I've been a Subaru enthusiast for quite some time now and owned all types of Subaru's and still have some :)

The latest project I'm interested in is building a Brumby with V5. STI running gear. I was told that their a are few people here who would help me out as i need someone to build this for me.

I've phoned a few mechanics and alot of people don't have the time to even begin. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Cheers,

do it yourself man... best part about modding cars, there are a few things you'd need other to do but the main bits if you know basic knowledge of mechanics you'd be able to do it yourself... posting progress up on here would get your all the knowledge you'd need from member on here that have done similiar.

I would have a look at this build thread. while the motor is a 13b rotary, the running gear is late model 5 stud stuff:)

It will give you a really good insight into just what you need to do to get it all to work.

Welcome to the forum Munyac!

1) get a crossbred kit - this is the bees knees in fitting liberty/wrx brakes and 5 stud to the MY/L series, follow the links

2) get the half cut you're after, fit the engine and gearbox yourself and

3) send the wiring to AM auto to be cut down

4) gusset the engine crossmember for the turbo up pipe - a search should find you what you're after once you've read 100 different pages...

All the best! (I'd love to be doing what you're about to do, but with a targa brumby )

Cheers

cheers for the info guys,
I'll be sure to contact crossbred shortly.

For the motor/box to be put in that's the issue, I'm not mechanic here, i have people in mind but their not to keen as it takes to much time away from their own work.

I really need a workshop that would fit this from start to finish with me providing them the half cut. Or if anyone here does it from their garage.

Probably better off waiting for one that's been converted already if you can't do the work yourself, they seem to come up quite frequently because it's not the sort of job anyone could quote you on, but you could be looking at over $20,000 by the time you find a good Brumby & donor half cut.

V5 STI is the 2 door so I wouldn't discount V3 - V6 STI's......V5 & 6 have the slightly stronger 8 bolt motor & box but are no quicker, I've been hammering my V3 for 6yrs.

Don't know why everyone one here is sending you all over the place, contact BYB01 and see if he is interested or ask him for Dave's details.

Or buy Chris_Rogers L series GT wagon for $2500 and see if that is what you want for peanuts considering what he's done !!

Carsales has 4 WRX Brumby's for sale at the moment, Cheapest one is only $2500 but needs finishing, my pick would be the red one for $11,500. Food for thought

Nice! The only thing I'd want to change is the front mount intercooler for a WAIC 8)
