put in an aftermarket temp gauge you will kick yourself if you dont a 20 -30 dollar part will save all your work from cooking itself (ask my engine Frank)

I've already got one installed, loved it before the snow killed it. I guess they're not designed to be frozen then quickly warmed up when the heater core defrosts quickly! This gauge is the reason why I know the L's dash gauge doesn't line up with the EJ's sender unit...

I'd recommend an after market gauge that shows temperature figures too. I should get mine replaced!
