engine rebuild questions

Post by spike » Mon Nov 22, 2010 12:19 pm

ok im in need of a new engine for the rally car
basically ive collected a load of bits that im hoping will bolt together with some mods and creat a mildly powered reliable beast

block: carb EA82, polished and lightened to take some weight of the front end
or i might use the MPFI block

heads: MPFI, ported polished and shaved (will need a modification to fit)

pistons: heres the main problem, i need pistons that will fit and be at least the same compression, my MPFI pistons are screwed so my options are to use the carb ones i have or go buy a good second hand set

intake: twin downdraughts i got off my brother, or maybe MPFi with cut down loom and all that so its put local and doesnt need to run the rest of the car.

any ideas?
will this word do we think?

If you have to rebuild a n/a EA82 (and I pity you in that predicament), go with new pistons, copper head-gaskets and the EFI.
Carbys are no match for EFI in 2010.

yeah the MPFI could be a little difficult, when runnign the duel carbs its easy to shave the heads but when running a FI in take it has to be the same length

if i can get my self a mega squirt or other style ill try and put duel AFMs on it

What class are you racing in that prevents running an EA82T?
Or an EJ?

Why wouldn't an EJ18 be legal in SA?
And why aren't you allowed to drive a turbo? The EA82T from the old RX Turbo was only rated at about 89kw. It's hardly a powerhouse!

SA legislation prevents engine transplants where the original vehicle was not sold AUDM with that motor.

For example: EA82T into a L-Series = OK as the RX was sold here. EJ (even a 18 ) was never a OME configuration so illegal
