ej22 from 97 Liberty into 91 Liberty
ej22 from 97 Liberty into 91 Liberty
I have a 91 Liberty with a damaged EJ22. I have located an EJ22 from a 97 Liberty. Is it a straight swap or are their issues with engine management and/ or wiring?

I can if you want me to but I don't have all day to type it outTOONGA wrote:are you sure it is an ej22 ?
if you just use the long block from the 97 liberty (as long as it is an EJ22) and use the engine managment stuff from the old engine (eg manifold injectors sensors from original motor) you won't have a problem
ps Im sure some one will disagree with what Im saying

Helgram - it's best to use the long engine (rocker cover to rocker cover) with all the timing belt covers untouched.. and then use your inlet and exhaust manifolds and you won't have any troubles. Make sure you clean the radiator out and put in a new (tested) thermostat.
Parts required are..
Oil & filter
Coolant
Inlet and Exhaust gaskets
and not necessary but I'd also change the fuel filter

^^^^^ That what they said above, just remove the wireloom, SOME sensors (not all of them ie. temp, knock sensor etc) and use gen 1 wire loom on gen 2 engine.
Do a proper service ie. gaskets, seals, timing belt while its out because you wont know the history of the engine.
Cheers
