boss kits L-series AGAIN!

ok, so i just bought a boss kit for my 1990, carby, L-series wagon, which of course doesnt fit, so i filed off the splines, and tightened the boss on with the nut, effectively re-splining the boss..

AH HA HA HA. Dont you just love "bolt on parts" for subaru. With a welder, grinder, lathe etc handy it might just bolt on.

Any idea if the part number for the MY is the same?

ummm....im not sure, but i noticed a few of the suby models did have the same AUTOTECHNICA part number..

well i just got the saas boss kit, went straight on, no worries at all!..the saas boss seems alot better quality than the autotechnica as well!

I'll second (or third!) the SAAS kit. I just got one from Repco (special order) for $90, bolted on (needed proper puller to remove original wheel) and all works fine - indicators still self-cancel and horn still works!
Oh and it's a sexy 320mm wheel - fab with power steering! You Gotta Get One!

yeah, i had an autotechnica boss kit, took it to the supplier in perth, place called Topline in malaga, they also happen to be a custom auto shop so they have lathe's etc etc. The problem is not the spline, its the taper a bit further in. Thats meant to centre and lock the wheel into position. the bloke there whacked it on the lathe for me, changed the angle and width of the taper and it bolted on. all for the cost of sweet F A...

it was a lot of running around, making phone calls and time consuming to get it all happening so I recommend just buying the SAAS one in the first place:)

another plus, id that the saas boss isnt as long, seeing as though i'm quite big, it makes abit of difference so im not leaning over the steering wheel like those 80 year old grannies driving hyundai getz's...

To dredge up an old topic, I am gonna include fitment guide off one makers website.

I have found fitment issue with one marked 910 to fit my Brumby 84, needs a square recess 20mm diameter about 3mm deep. It has a 17mm taper on the underside instead.

# 910 said to fit Leone, 1800 to 1984, and Brumby no year stated
# 908 said to fit coarse spline Leone 1985 ON
# 907 said to fit stn wag 2WD, 4WD 1985 ON, 4WD, DL Series, GL Series , sedan and wagon no year stated

then the Libs, Fozzers and imprezzas feature with different ones for ones with cruise control

Got on to a helpful individual at autotecnica when i rang them this arvo. Great when you can get to the source, beyond the sometimes not care so much retailer, yet he had the right answer in first place

It seems that Subaru kindly did more than one steering columns in the MY or MV BRUMBY and I have three of the ones this does boss not fit completely. This one is renamed CODE 910 here in Australia, and they have sold nearly 60 in past two years so the problem lies within the Subaru family. I was advised that they are aware of this problem and have warned their outlets that the 910 may not fit and if so return it for a refund, as they cannot help.

It's those nice little changes that Subaru make, to make a difference or satisfy authorities.

As I stubbornly want to fit my tidy little autotecnica wheel I shall decline the offer to return it and get it lathed up to remove excess which also involves the horn contact side clearance of the boss. So, it ain't autotecnicas fault
