Hybrid Garrett BB turbo almost ready .

Post by discopotato03 » Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:30 pm

I was at GCG today to pick up my new turbo but there must have been crossed wires because it was not in the correct form .
The turbine and turbine housing was right but the compressor end is too big so back to their workshop .
The comp housing and wheel is sort of in between VF11 and VF10 but the turbine and its housing is light years ahead of most IHI's IMO .
What it will do is make for low specific turbine inlet pressure and probably something like VF10 airflow if not more .
Garrett rate this turbo at ~ 270 Hp and with the better turbine it should do it easily , not that I need it .
Actually I'm lucky it's based on the S15 200SX 's turbine housing because its Ni Resist meaning high Nickle content material and has the vane outside the turbines outlet so when the waste-gate cracks open its gas stream doesn't blast at right angles into the turbines outlet stream . Usually only HKS and RB26 intended GT28 turbine housings have this .

Because these housings have a rectangular four bolt mounting flange I think I'm going to need a removable up pipe like EJ's have because I don't think you'd be able to get at some of the fasteners in situ .

Maybe next week , cheers A .
