In a bit of trouble

Post by Dutchy » Wed Apr 02, 2008 1:02 pm

Im having a bit of trouble with my L series, and unable to figure out wat the problem is. I have found out (the hard way) that there was a bit of sand & other crap in my fuel tank (this was on a beaten track that land cruisers were struggling on) I cleared the fuel line and got the car running again but thats only part of the problem which i can fix by flushing the fuel tank.
The main problem is electrical and i just cant seem to figure it out. wat happens is the whole electrics of the car cut out (so head lights, dash, dash gauges, clock the only thing to stay on is the radio) to make it worst the engine cuts out with it.

could it be an earth wire come loose and bridgibg causing the car to short out or incorrect fuses?

Please any suggestions would be greatful, really want the old girl running a treat.

Scott.

Well first thing i would be doing is checking Fuses ,Fuseable Links under the Bonnet and Connection of the battery terminals and your alternator connection.

Dont know if it could be any of these but its a start.

i reckon definetly the fuseable links under the bonnet on the overflow bottle. the may not look burnt out sometimes but they can be. happens to my car a bit. replace with another or circuit breakers or wire if theres nothing else.

LOL strathfield. I wouldn't let them touch my car with a 10 foot pole. They do scary stereo installs at best... would hate to trust important car running wires with them.

Glad you got it sorted mate... unfortunately with elecrical work you pay for what you get... and most places you dont get much.

many years ago a company of very much similar name if not same, one branch had some contract work to install stuff. Stuff started smokin' coz it didn't have fuse !! Many vehicles done by the same misinformed / trained individual

This would have been my first guess too... Glad it was sorted, i wouldn't have thought of an immobiliser as in vic we don't need to have them by law...

Dave, I don't reckon you'd let anyone touch any wiring on your car EVER!

Besides, your car is a master piece, why would you need any electrical work done? (PS - where was it that you got your interior light from again?)

End hijack

Cheers
