Liberty dash display

I have a 2004 Liberty.
The time/outside temperature/fuel consumption display unit has a mind of it's own as to if it will display or not. It acts like there is a loose connection, tap the unit a few times and it sometimes it begins to work.

Occasionally it displays as if it is receiving a low voltage, ir some parts are dimly lit.

There are no other apparent electrical issues with the car.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any suggestions as to how the unit is removed from the dash/console without damageing the surface finish please?

This is my first Subaru and I am pleased with the car. In all other respects it has been excellent

Hi Ric welcome to the board

Have a look at the main plug that goes into the unit it might have a bad connection just take off the plastic cover under the dash should only be 3 or 4 plastic screws

Get upside down with a small torch and trace the wire hope it helps:)

Pretty common in the Gen 4's, Liberty's and Outback's.
Part number is 85201AG010, and RRP is $338.

For that money i'd pull it apart and look for cracked solder joints (same things that happens in early Foretser clocks) or a loose connection..

Thank you Yarney and BobbyJimmy.

I will try to remove the underdash panels. Since you have identified a part number I presume it comes out from the console separately.
