Cooling fans 94 WRX

Post by 85wrx » Fri Mar 14, 2008 7:03 pm

Guys,
I am converting coupe with WRX running gear. I am also swapping the entire half cut loom into the coupe as well as the climate control. The WRX cooling fans have 3 wires going to them. Do to space limitations between the radiator and engine I am swapping over the fans to an after market version with only two wires.
Does anyone no how I can overcome the difference? I thought that it was for high and low speed. But connecting 12 volts to the fan it spins the same using either supply.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Darryl

Hi daryl,

The bigger thermo fan is your main cooling fan when the cooling system starts getting hot, this will be triggered from the the yellow/red wire. The smaller fan also has a trigger from the ecu when it starts getting hot, thats the white/lime wire.

When you turn your air con on, the smaller fan will come on as well, triggered from the yellow/green wire. The main fan air con trigger is the white/green wire.

So basically on both fans 1 wire is for engine temp the other is for air con, and obviously the 3rd is ground.

cheers,
adam
