where would I find the wires to hook up a trailer plug to go with my new towbar?
Is it the two wires coming down in the centre of my wagon?

Thanks

Joshua.

pick up the harness that gives power to the rear lights then use a tester to work out which wire drives which lights

The wires you need should be found where the rear lights are, you can access them usually the same way you do when you change the bulbs.

If you're lucky to have an adapter plug that attaches to the rear lights (I think its LHS lights) and plug it and it has trailer plug attached. If not - you can connect up 5 wires onto it (7th wires would be electric brakes if you have one)

You don't need to cut if you use those joiner things that squish together and join two wires. Be warned that on the L-Series, the "STOP LAMP" warning lamp may come on when you have a trailer connected as the system detects a drop in voltage in the brake light circuit. They should still work find though.

OMG NO!!! don't use scotch locks if you want good connections...
i used to install radios etc and it was company policy not to use them, even though handsfree car kits were supplied with them. I had to rewire the trailer connections on two of my cars because of bad connections with scotch locks...

Yeah same here with scotch connections - one time i used it for full beam and it melted and caused poor connections, best way is strip 10cm of wire and solder it on for good connection and put tape around each wire (I used shrink thing)

I really hate when people do that with their radios - very messy that way and I would make an adapter for it.

Actually, yeah, if that's what they are called, they aren't that good, but it does save you cutting wires :)

well actually that is half the problem...when you crimp them on they do cut the wires. they are supposed to cut through the insulation, but they cut some of the wire strands too. so not only do they reduce the effective wire size, they give a poor connection to the new accessory also.

was checking out a Van at work.....owned by electricians (not autmotive tho).....and it used those Wire Taps (probly wt u call scotch locks)

but they havent owned it to long and probly didnt install the trailer plug neways.

but it does tow a trailer often and the lights have always worked
