L series headlights... bulbs?

I finally got round to having a look at some jdm headlights, supposedly superior to aust spec. Just to look at them the reflectors look like brand new compared to the blistered & dirty reflectors in my normal lights. The jdm ones also have a different pattern on the lense.
I've found that the performance is heaps better, even with standard bulbs compared to my old lights with 100W bulbs. Heaps brighter, crisper.
I dont want to burn the reflectors with high watt bulbs so what are some good upgrade ones?

Keeping in mind they aren't legal you could HID them. Other wise I've found the Phillips +50 bulbs to be good.

HID's. Best headlight upgrade you can do. Makes halogen's look stupid. They also draw a fair bit less current.

ive got 6000k in my liberty and in the l-series. Absolutely beautiful. Dont go any higher than 6000k, they go really blue, and up towards 10000k they start to turn purple, and get really rice boy like, cop attractors.

Have you also done the wiring conversion with relays such that the headlight draws power straight from the battery instead of all the way into the car via the headlight switch?
This makes a big improvement on its own by losing the current drop from the 4m or more of wiring that is bypassed.

yeah its either the independant relays & +50s or the HID kit, cant decide which way to go yet

Ok so I finally got around to doing something about upgrading globes. Bought some h4 Phillips vison +50. Pulled the old globes out they're h6. wtf? aus spec L series has h4. Phillips doesnt list h6 globes. So what have you got in your jdm headlights subi wan???? The difference in base between h4/6 is not much i could modify the h4 to fit but its the difference in bulb that worries me
h4
h6
