UPDATE... PANIC NOT OVER


the bugger is doing the same thing !! Absolutely no lights on dash. Suspect fusible links

Mutter,mutter, went to go to work and as it started i heard that noise again. I switched off to restart and nothin'

It was a dodgy ignition switch (the electrical bit at the back). Plug in my *cough spare one and hey presto. I then dropped the dodgy one , now it works fine too ?!

I got home at 1.00am coz at 11.30 a stop off to buy milk on the way, I heard a sort of noise like a blowing fuse AS i turned ignition off, coming from the dash. Actually sounded like my headlight reminder when car is in reverse, gives a slight crackle.

Now no ignition lights at all and no start.

are there weird arse relays for ignition under dash that can go ?

I trekked home filled my bag with all sorts of tools, wires, clips, multimeter, torch BRRR minus 1? , trekked back carrying another battery too, 8mm spanner

ended up aligator clip on positive battery terminal with a ring on the coil black/white wire we have ignition a jump start and I not have to sleep in car overnite !!

now suspect igniton switch back itself


waddaya know about these

BLOODY fusible link corroded and then broken on the small of the female spade terminal. Probly the original one. it was the red one in the middle of two green ones.

I'd say if you are reading this and never seen or checked the physical condition of your fusible links - DO it, and keep a spare. Gonna coat it all in lanoline or something too

Changing the ignition switch may have given it a different resistance and kicked the old broken terminal into life for a few starts bloody tricked me, although it used to be common on the old mazdas i used to play with

haha fusable links...i had my alarm going off all night cos of them...just replace them with wire...

has anyone actually blown a fusable link? as in blown, not broken from old age..
