Alt outa a Lseries, so 55 or is it 60amp, half the rectifier is shot, maybe the regulator as well, brushes need replacing, windings measure ok,otherwise its pretty good, just looks and is 20yrs old.

So just wondering if its worth pursuing fixing it, what it may cost?
got a replacement that looks fairly newish for $70 at wreckers......

Or $150 for a recon (same as original) one at your local auto electrician. Though that may be almost same gamble as a nice looking one from a wrecker.

i'll have to find out how much a new rectifier assembly is, with that i reckon it be as good as any recon you can buy.

ok,outa interest, checked at the subaru dealer, got the part nos for the rectifier assembly etc,etc...no stock available in Aus. so that means ex-japan at $$$$. kind of answers the Q, wonder how the recons get "recond'd"?.

Most altenator reco's use standard off the slelf parts(from specialists electronic shops) not geninune parts....

I went through the same last year, not worth rebuilding the old one.
Ended up buying a reconned one for $350, not cheap, but not an unknown from a wrecker that has no warrenty.

My local auto elec sells them. As long as the diodes are ok, that's all they really need. If you have been pulling big amps out of it, check the connecting wires between the top and bottom plates as they will 'unsolder' themselves. email me on [email protected] if you need pics.
