anyone know where I can buy a cig lighter plug (male) that has inbuilt circuit to reduce to 5V with USB socket at the other end ?

One came with a road angel evo but thought a second one handy to wire into a vehicle and thinking may be cheaper alternative than buying another from road angel

Try a jaycar distributor failing that there's an accessories kit for the PSP that comes with one, really it wouldn't take a whole lot to just build one.

I'd have to say got fed up with cig plug adaptors..and not enough of them lol...now have a builtin switch mode reg, with a set of dc plugs on a panel...
2.5A for a number of usb/or otherwise devices....
if you need a circuit ..can dig it out .....

Jordan, have looked at jaycar catlog, but may still find in store. A mate reckons he could build one as he is electrical engineer with electronics diploma, half a massage diploma and sells ice cream. Pull plug apart it is a bit more than resistors. PSP huh ? good one

and fredsub, please if you can find your circuit diagram would be a good start. thanks

All you really need is this fella, a cigerette lighter plug, a usb socket and a 470ohm 5 watt resistor

See here for usb pinouts.

Should all come in under $10.

Not only is he naked in his sig, he's a damn fine electrical guru!

Thanks Baron! Will be replicating this myself (tacking the above onto a Jaycar order I'm putting through on payday!)

meanwhile, I found http://www.mrgadgets.com.au marked them down from $35 to $15, buy three items under 3 kg = free postage. These have an IC in circuit and a LED changing from red to green depending on what is going on.

just so your efforts not wasted I may try build one too , thanks !!

Watchout for those 7805 regulators - they will cook themselves with no heatsink if you draw more than about 150mA.
