ive just spent the las 2 hours tryin to suss out the high beam wire for my new spotties.
my wiring(apart from that one wire obviously) is 100% and been double checked.
i connected to the topmost one on the globe terminals and this is what happens:
no lights on: spotties on
lights on: spotties off
high beam on: spotties on
wtf is goin on. with the circuit tester experimenting, i cant find the right wire to tap into. anyone else had this problem?

thats the one son, just make sure u run a relay and a switch.

Yeah subi this is what I found aswell. When the headlights lights are switched off the power returns to the +'ve, so you just have to remember to switch your spotties off separately. I think the high beam circuit is broken by there being power to the -'ve aswell when the headlights are off. But at least when you turn the key off the spotties should go off. It was freaking me out aswell for a while when I was wiring mine up - different to other cars that i've put lights on.

Mine do exactly the same thing. It also happens on my girlfriends VT. I've just learnt to turn off the spotties before i turn off my lights... there must be enough of a current to trip the relay to switching the spotties on... generally speaking my lights are on all the time anyway, i only turn them off if i notice their reflection on the back of another car at the lights.

I'm sure there's a wire to the hi-beam realy that can be tapped on the signal side (when you flick to high-beam) possibly near the stalk itself... this is on my "to do list"

Subaru Headlights are + (Positively) AND - (Negatively) Switched.

You need to make the relay positive switching, not negative.

I.e. The relay is trigged by the high beam being turned on.

yeh ill have to have a hunt up to the stalk and see what i can find.
i can see myself leaving spotties on in the daytime if i dont.

Funny stuff this Subaru wiring...Tim was telling me recently about a guy who got his EJ wiring cut down for his conversion by some dodgy guy... Aparently it was outputting engine error codes through the electric Thermo fans!!

Pick up the power for the relay through the high beam wire, and earth the relay through the high beam / headlight earth rather than to the body.

Same thing happens on new Hiluxes, Kluger's, Taragos and 100 series Sahara (not STD or GXL.... wtf?).
All of which I've fitted spotties to at some time or another.

& you'll find different Toyotas work differently depending on whether they have the ignition off/door open triggered lights, or just on.

that helps me heaps as well!...(my car does the same obviuosly)
