Improvement after replacing alternator

Post by David D » Mon Sep 19, 2016 9:10 pm

hi guys

As the title suggests, I recently replaced the alternator on my '87 EA81 Brumby and I could swear the car is running better now. It was a like-for-like used replacement from an MY wagon. It was the voltage regulator that was faulty on the old one.

Am I just imagining this or is there any reason behind it?

Just thought I'd throw it out there for discussion.

Cheers

David D

Most likely the old one was worn out, so you would notice the difference with a newer one ... ;)

Ciao, Bantum ...

If you replace a faulty alternator, which wasn't providing the right charged as you have stated, then it is very probable that your ignition system (coil, distributor and ignition module) will be receiving the right voltage and these electronics will be delivering the proper spark to the spark plugs causing your engine to run better. As well all of your other electrics will work better.

Yeah that makes sense. I didn't notice anything was wrong until my battery died and I thought it was a bit premature. I got a mate to check the voltage and that's how I found out the alternator was faulty.
Cheers for the replies
