Dual Headlight 88 Brumby - Issue

Ok Guru's of electrickery.

With the beast when you push the high beam lever forward both sets of lights extinguish apart from the park lights, however when you flick the lever (pull towards the driver) the high beam is OK. What am I missing? Ideas?

Just a couple of preliminary questions...
Have you worked on anything else recently? (electrically)
Can you hear or feel the 2 tin top relays clicking at all, when you go from high to low beam? (They're situated just above left of the fuse box)

Hey Proton mouse. I removed spotlights which were not working correctly. I have removed all switches, wires & the relay relating to the spotties. as for the metal relays I can't hear any clicking.

I have power to both headlights & each light has a complete circuit

Ok a bit more difficult if things have been cut/modified but can still help.
Essentially, power comes straight up from the fusible links (next to battery) to the relays, then to fuse box, then straight back down to lights.
Its the activation of the main headlight switch that gives an earth to the relays and also an earth to the headlights (via the indicator stalk). If they are not clicking then it sounds like the relays are not getting this earth. Its the thick red with yellow stripe wire going to the relays.
Also just check the main thick black earth lead is affixed properly (it hangs down from dash loom, up and behind the fuse box, and screws to the side of the inner dash pad if I remember correctly.

Yep - Sounds like you've removed one too many wires somewhere.

Had same problem in my single headlight MY but it didn't have any headlight relays...turned out to be dodgy connections in the switching mechanism/indicator stalk.

Sounds like a wire has been cut/solder joint cracked or broken within the combination switch.

Either track down this issue within the switch or replace with a new switch I reckon. If you've got a second switch on hand it's very easy to swap plugs and test without removing your current unit from the column ;)

Earth appears fine, we do have a click from the relay when flashing HB, however no click when moved forward to HB. Relay or switch?

ok, you describe two functions - yet there are three positions push and self hold forward is normal high beam use ?, middle is neutral, no hi beam, and pull towards driver is a momentary position for pass hi beam as they call it yeah ?

Worked fine before you pulled the ancillary lights off. Might have been an earth wire on the relay interfered with ?

I found best way to add high beam lights to high beam circuit was to get both pos and neg for relay switching from the lighting circuit and not earth the relay 85 pin to body earth.

Sort of sounds like the earth for those driving lights you pulled was the earthing for high beams too ?

Are there 1 or 2 relays? Mine has 2.
If they (it) are both clicking then they (it) should be ok.
Then look at swapping over the indicator switch mechanism.
