L series power mirror switch
L series power mirror switch
I have mirrors which I assume are powered (they don't have toggles to adjust them manually) but the switch wasn't there. I got one from the wreckers and connected it to the plug but it doesn't work.
The only difference is that the switch doesn't have 2 wires that the plug has.
Does anyone know why the plug has 2 additional wires and the mirrors won't 'power'?

The mirror will have some friction to move it, otherwise it will move when you're driving.
It would be very unusual for a Subaru to have electric mirrors without the switch, especially if the blanking plate was still in the dash board.
If you want electric mirrors you'll need to replace the mirror units, removable from behind the plastic triangle trim piece (push it up from memory). Three screws will have it out/off.
If there was a matching plug for the mirror control pad it should be all good. Subaru are notorious for putting extra wires in for different things - the extra two could be a heating element in the mirrors for a JDM spec l series - not that I've heard of this on an l series before.
You should have a plug in the driver's and passenger's kick panel to hook the mirror's wiring to. If you do add the electric mirrors make sure you get all the wiring from the mirror to the kick panel, it might be wrapped in with electric window wiring, easy to pick it out for your install.
To check you've got this wiring at the kick panel you can hold the pad on with one function and reference each combination of wiring sequence until you get a voltage reference. Just make sure you're working on the side indicated by the pad's switch. From memory the plugs are green, but I am a bit hazy on this as there's a few plugs in that area.
Hope this helps.
