Had a bit of search around but couldn't find any existing threads.

Looking for a bit of extra light while camping, was thinking of mounting some LED lights off ebay on the tailgate or similar. I am sure this has been done once or twice already, any one got any suggestioins on what works best or nifty mounting spots?

There's been a thread made on this exact thing.

Someone here will dig it out, otherwise I'd hit up the searching. I think they used the lights for fishing.

I like this idea from the subaru forester forums.

ended up up a couple of 3xAA powered work lights from supercheap for $3 each (with batteries!). Not an ideal solution but a cheap and easy one that will do for now.

I purchased a $30 water proof LED strip that glows "warm yellow" from Jaycar. This is mounted under the rear window so that it faces into the cargo area when the tail gate is open. It's wired into the rear light (I've got the touring wagon boot light in my wagon) so that it turns off when the tailgate is closed, I've also got a switch so I can turn it off when it's not needed.

It may be more than you want to spend, but I did this in a rush and am very happy with the results. The warm yellow is the best choice of colour with LEDs!

Cheers

I did the same thing as el freddo but got a $16? kit off eBay that comes with 2x 48 led pads with 3 different connectors so did the centre light and the one in the boot with the sticky pad at the bottom of the window - it lights up plenty out the back of the car - well worth the 15 mins to install!

have you got the camping lights you were searching for? I need such lights so can you tell which lights you got? It would be great if you share some pics
