Forester Electrical help

Post by frug » Sun Apr 28, 2013 7:33 pm

Hi there everyone.

I need to get some electrical work done on my 05 Forester. I'm thinking of getting a new stereo unit and UHF radio setup in my dash, but I have no idea how to install it. I'd be happy to buy both the units from one shop and get them to install, but not sure what store would stock both Stereo and UHF units. Any suggestions?? even happy to get any free lance car sparkies to install, if that helps. My location is Melbourne.

Cheers

Hey mate,

You could always research/buy the UHF/car stereo units online for perhaps a better price, then pay someone to install them. It's worth it if you save a few hundred but still have warranty. Otherwise a shop install is good for peace of mind.

What part of the forester stereo did you want to change, the head unit or all the speakers as well? It could get expensive.

You can get some tiny UHF radios these days, they could mount under the dash, or behind a seat etc. Doesn't have to be in the dash necessarily. I have one (GME) in my brumby and I installed it in about half an hour. Admittedly it is not a cosmetically awesome install but it works.

To go with the UHF you need to consider what type of aerial you get to go with it, and where you mount it (bullbar, roof-rack, bonnet etc). It's best to seek advice on this. I.e. Do you drive in hilly terrain, or open plains, there are various aerials to cater to this. Google is your friend to get a basic understanding.

Cheers.

hi Boosting.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking to only replace the current head unit in the car. The current setup looks like this: Image

as you can see, the radio head unit takes up 2 spots, so i'd like to get a radio for the top half and the uhf for the lower spot.

I'm happy to buy from somewhere local online, but I still don't know how to fit them, hence the question about a sparkie.

Cheers
