2000 Outback electrical issues

Hello again every one. It has been a while since I posted mainly due to ill health. I'm still playing with the subies although not quite as much as previously. Any way here is a strange one for you that has had me stumped for months. I have a 2000 2.5 Outback that I got from the auctions. It was a flood damaged car. I also bought another one of the same model that was in a heavy roll. Short story is I gutted both and put the electricals from the rolled one in to the mud one.

Every thing works as it should except for one little thing. When I turn the car off it shuts down and then the instrument cluster "ignition on" lights light up. I thought there may have been a fault in the body loom from the rolled car so I bought another one and swapped it over. Same thing. Turn the car off and then the ignition lights come back on. I have sourced it to a relay just below the fuse box inside. If I remove the relay the lights go off. I swapped the relay which was no better. The relay appears to be for the cruise control which I found out this afternoon. Now if I unplug the cruise control unit and leave the relay in every thing works as it should.

At this stage you would think that swapping the cruise unit would fix it. Well I though it would but it doesn't. I tried another one in there and get the same result. The cruise and ABS are on the same fuse circuit. If I remove the fuse from the fuse box it solves the problem.

ABS was then my next guess, so I unplugged it from the unit under the bonnet. Still no good.

Here's the thing. When the "ignition lights" are on on the dash the ignition relay isn't. Now it is open to the experts. What do you think I should do next?

This is definitely a strange one and if I was playing with it, I would look at changing the alternator (if you haven't tried this?) as I feel something is sending a signal down the wrong path here.

BTW.. good to hear from you Brett and hope you on the mend?
