Does anyone know what this is
Uploaded with
ImageShack.us, its function etc ?
Found it on my 89 mpfi wagon I wrecked, think the Vortex also has one in same place RHS strut tower at the front, inside is a white ceramic housing like a coils resistor

Resistor.. check wiring loom for details of what it connects to. I think it is for the coil??

If its from a MPFI would take a good guess at it being the dropping resistor for the injectors.

Hmm, coil is LHS this is far right ..... resistor sounds good to me

need wiring diagram or study the parts manual

yep dropping resistor for the injectors 100%

The unused clip for a relay or solenoid is for the turbo models...
All MPFI have this thingy what ever it is, I've never really looked into it too far.
Cheers

I'm going with dropping resistor for the injectors.. makes me wonder if they have the same in the EJ.. can't remember seeing one

Yeah yas have pretty much hit the nail on the head, its the dropping resistor for the injectors because they are low impedance injectors (2 - 3 ohms). The clip on the end holds the boost sensor for the turbo light on the dash.
EJ injectors and pretty much most cars made since around 1990 have high impedance injectors (12 - 14 ohms). Interestingly, the XT6 had high impedance injectrors

How did the series 1 EA82's get around this? were they also high impedence injectors?

Yeah , could be a good explain. My 85 made, 87 compliance plated GLTA does not have one so injectors not interchangeable ???

Mmmm interesting.
Its possible that 85-86 ECU's used high current driver transistors, and in 87, they decided it was more cost effective to use smaller transistors and a resistor
Hey Jono, can you measure the resistance of your 85/86 injectors, I have some 88 injectors I'll measure

parts catalog shows same injectors, well 3 different types, but used all through the year range.
Must have been sorted out with the ECU
Gannon, I have an MY99 WRX down pipe, did you want it for the flanges or the cat?

That is just a thumbnail image, its too small to be legible. Can you repost the original?
I want it for the whole pipe, because just for now, it will join the turbo to the mid pipe I have with the least amount of fuss.
Is it with you or at your dads house? I spotted a vac articulator off a gearbox in his shed and I will take it off your/his hands if its cheap enough as well.

Gannon, to measure would be a multi meter set on low ohms and just terminals across any injector pins in or out of car eh ?

Yeah low setting, usually 200 ohms. Yeah just test across these terminals
