I mounted a tacho into the dash cluster of my MY for the back light I just connected it to one of the dash backlights.
If you want to mount it seperate from the main cluster it might be easier to just have the light always on.

yer too wire up the volt gauge i was thinking of running a wire from the back of the alternator for the volt reading then running a power wire for the light from somewhere behind the dash.

That should do it, thats what I would do, except I would fuse the line between the voltmeter and alternator, something like 200ma would be my guess, it may not exactly be the best way to do it but at the same time it could be as well.

yer fuse would be a good idea i reckon.... anyone hooked up an oil pressure gauge to a carby ea82? found another gauge

yes. i have.
electronic oil pressure guage though. i did have a mechanical one, but was put off by installing a live oil line into the cabin. illegal, and hot oil spray isnt a great turn on for me.
autometer silver series. volts, oil pressure and water temp.

how did you hook up your volt and water temp gauge?

water temp - sender screwed into the spot where the original was. the actual original sender was screwed and wired into the radiator, to allow me to monitor the radiator's habits.
volts - off the positive 12v constant wire that feeds the stereo. has worked a treat for the last 2 years or so.

was the wire going to the stereo for the backing light of the gauge?
to wire up the volt reading did you put the wire on the back of the alternator?

not off the back of the alternator.

yep yep i understand it now becuase the 12V wire that goes to your stereo is constant which is wried to the positive terminal on the battery.. which the alternator charges... therefore giving you a voltage reading..
thanks smoov

its all wired up now...

explored under the steering colum. wired into the cigarett lighter light for backing light on the gauge and found a wire that has 12V reading when the ignition is turned on..
