Liberty Electrical WOES!!

Post by H-top » Thu Jan 27, 2011 7:42 pm

G'day,

I did some stereo soldering to fix the twisted and taped rats nest behind
the dash.

only to realise i had not parkers, tail lights or dash illum afterwards
and it keeps blowing fuses.

does anything in these early liberties usually give out and cause that much
resistance? 20A fuse.

Cheers,
Samuel

Hey Samuel since having installed car audio and alarms for a crust, I would recommend a complete re-install of said stereo. To frustrating and consuming attempting to tidy up someone elses mess.

Yes.. I'm going with the stereo install as well.. remember there are 2 wires that illuminate the OEM stereo when you turn the lights on.. from memory the 2 wires are.. black with silver dots (earth wire) and the other is white with a yellow trace (ignition switch lighting circuit) and you may have nicked one

Fingers crossed!

This is a pretty common thing.. The earth that your using for the cd player, is actually the illumination wire. While the parkers are turned off, that wire will test as a ground wire but when said lights are turned on, it becomes a live wire. Just tape that wire up and earth the cd player wire to a metal frame in there somewhere.

Why would it do both?!

Cheers, I'll do that today!

Yeah Vincentvega, I know. But
I've seen some very strange
coincidences before.

For example; chappelle corby
had her bag unknowingly filled
with dope and that her extended
family members are known for
illicit drug use and trafficing lol?

Source: a current affair

but yeah I see it's a stupid question

Is it because the stereo cage is earthed and it sends
a signal to dim the factory unit?

Cheers

if subarooster is correct, its because the stereo cage is grounded to teh chassis of the car by the cage it bolts in, and you have connected the illumination wire to ground, shorting it out.

by the sounds of it if you just cut the ground wire your problem will go away and the stereo will work fine.

My first step in problem solving is "what changed"

I dont believe in coincidences ;)

Well it took me 10 min this morning!

My earth was already an added earth.

2 wired I noticed were joined when I first
pulled the stereo were twisted together.
So when I was soldering, I soldered them together.
The original stereo was still sitting in the
DIN above the aftemarket one.
I removed the original which was probably
still used for the lights?

The 2 wires were earth as acc circuit.

Fixed :)

thanx all!
