Hi all

Just picked up our new 2.5 Prem. Outback. Sat Nav, roof racks.

I have been toying with the idea to purchase some puddle lights from the U.S. and install myself.

Has anybody installed these lights and if so is it going to be an easy job for a back yarder?

As im assuming the wiring is setup in the car ready to take these kind of accessories?

Thanks

Marty

P.S.

Is that paint protection stuff they offer at the dealership actualy worth it?

I would hazard a guess that he is referring to the downward facing lights in the doors that come on when you open them so you can see what you are about to step in when you get out.

I have just discovered that the car does have lights in the base of the front doors, but are not the same as the lights that are attached to the underside of the car (Puddle lights).

The lights are available as an option here in SA as they appear in the accessories brochure?

This is the link to the product in question.

Any body had problems with rear seat belts retracting then not allowing rear seat occupant to extend the belt?

if they arer in the door they would be legal
but if you use them on the road and nice mister plod pulls you over your likely to get defect.
NEONS are illegal and they wont understand that these arent neons

See Captain Obvious post with pic of the Forester. I think it has the puddle lights installed.

I would assume that the lights would only come on upon unlocking the doors and then switch of once you start the car and drive off.

in that case they would be legal
basically just uprated and modifed lights in the base of the doors

from what i read at the start i thought you were talking about neon substitues that stay on all the time, of the LEDs that 4wd rock hoppers have under the wheel arch which are again illegal on the road

Sorry Spike, prefer Subaru parts for this mod.

I prefere to use the genuine Subaru parts for this job, i like to have the feeling that all parts should bolt on,connect and operate as per factory set up.

but even if they come from factory and are sold by subaru doesnt neccersarily mean they are legal

kawasaki bikes used to be sold with a legal exhaust and muffler that limited the bike to less than 100 or so hp and kept the noise below 110db
it also came with a box that had a mystery suurprise in it, that was illegal to fit

surely they wire into the door courtesy lights and come on the same as the interior lights. maybe even fade out after delay. cool
