hi guys,
Im havving this issue with the liberty fuel gauge. It used to stay on empty all the time. We bought it like that drove it until the red fuel light goes on to fill up:)
Anyway i've replaced the whole speedo and now the needle stays up on full 24/7
Any idea on what can cause this?
thx

I wouldn't have thought replacing the speedo would have fixed anything to do with the fuel gauge.
(lol obviously u wrote the wrong thing there)
I'm assuming u have replaced the fuel gauge in the dash.
Sounds like the exact same problem still exists but maybe u have wired it backwards or something so now it says full instead of empty.
I'd say the problem lies with the level indicator in the fuel tank. I've heard these go bung quite often in old Libs. Somebody on RSlibertyclub.org or maybe this forum wrote a pretty good guide on cleaning it, that worked for him for about a week, then he ended up just replacing it with a new one. Concentrate your efforts there.

I would check out the fuel sensor as well, cant wire it wrong as they're slotted to fit in correct way unless you've damaged the circuit somehow?
Cheers

na na, I've got like 5 spare speedo/clusters so i replaced the whole thing, speedo, rev couter, fuel gauge etc.
Is the level indicator or fuel sensor the one on the top of the tank thats under the rear seat?
thx

I had this problem in my corolla once, it turns out there was a massive short in the dash circuitry that caused the resistors in the fuel gauge to give out. My temp + fuel gauge always red full.
U'd be best off with a wiring diagram to try and chase down a short because sometimes a lot runs on that circuit, e.g. radio, horn, blinkers etc
