Replace Window Motor 2006 Forester

Post by mgarvey » Thu Feb 18, 2010 3:58 pm

Hi,

My drivers window motor is shot and Subaru have quoted me $700 to fix. Are the window motors from most Subarus transferrable or do I need to get a 2006 Forester window motor?

Secondly how hard are they to fit? Initially I thought it may have been the contacts so I took them apart to have a look however once I re connected my battery my computer was playing up and I had to take it in to get reset as my car kept cutting out whilst driving. For this reason Im a bit hesitant to disconnect the battery again, is this common or more likley to be a one off?

Any assistance with replacing the window motor would be great

Thanks

Mitch

Go to Subaru, get the part number, and go backwards to check out what other year Foresters it would work, call wreckers for 2nd hand from other models, ie. year.... thats another option, I would expect an motor for less than $70
Cheers

Hey Mitch - how'd you go? I have a 2005 Forester and mechanic is telling me motor is blown and the reason the motor is blown is because of a faulty switch. For a long time the driver's window wound up & down intermittently and then it stopped completely. Got quoted an enormous amount - over $1200 or so. Anyone got any ideas for me to save some $$$?
