98 ej20 AWD Auto ECU wiring diagrams

Post by drof351 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 7:13 pm

Hi guys, I'm chasing the ecu wiring diagram to suit the 98 Subaru Impreza AWD auto EJ20. It has a single plug into the ecu held in with a 10mm bolt. Thanks

Are you sure???

Sounds to me more like the SMJ (super multiple junction)
Its a large connector that joins the engine wiring with the bulkhead (underdash) wiring.

Most ECU's had 3 plugs

The engine is in my L, running, and all the wires from the engine go to this single plug?

Here you go, The "ECU" and wiring are just resting on the engine until I can finish finding all the wires. The car is running and driving, auto is changing etc. Just want to find the temp gauge wire, tacho, oil light, pedal switch, power button etc

I might be able to help... can u remove that white plastic cover off the ECU plug there?

Is the car running and mobile?? Where are u located... im 20mins north of Perth.... if your able to bring it over sometime i can definately help.

I have done heaps of these and never seen a ECU plug bolt on like that or have that cover. Im wondering if the bolt is just for the cover or to hold the plug in.

Temp and oil don't come out of the ECU they come directly from the motor so an ECU diagram wont help with that but i could be some assistance in locating them for u.

is it a late 98 (gen3) or early (gen2) engine? Looks like a gen3 from the air cleaner.

i have the diagrams for the early stuff.

97 on is an integrated ECU / TCU. all done in the one unit

No its not, the TCU and ECU are separate. Newer cars with CAN-Bus systems may be different.

The ECU is usually located in front of the passenger footwell and the TCU is up beside the steering column.

Id say from the airbox is more likely from a 2007 onwards, which may explain the single plug ECU that we have never seen before

The 97/98 2.0 auto Impreza is exactly like Vincentvega said. I have own several and the ECU and TCU are one and the plug is bolted to it

mate I have an integrated TCU / ECU sitting on my desk. dont tell me they dont exist.

On some models this is true. on others its not.

Don't assume just because you know something about a particular model that it applies to all cars.

Looks as though i may have been wrong

I know 1998-2003 Liberty's are separate, 1989 to 1993 liberty's are separate and the 2002 Impreza's is separate, so yes i assumed that all others must follow suit.

So what cars came with the intergrated ECU/TCU?
