L Series interior light switches

I'm trying to install some extra interior lights in the back of my L, but the switch in the tailgate catch seems to work backwards - switch is open when the tailgate is open.
1. Is that normal?
2. Ideas on how to make my extra boot lights work? Hoping to avoid running wires all the way to the dome light wire.

U could use a relay but wire it backwards so it works backwards (I think)

Yeah, thought about getting a normally closed relay, but then the funny switch would keep the relay powered all the time the car is sitting closed, and eventually run down the battery. Needless complexity.

To quote Pauline Hanson....."Please explain"...switch in the tailgate is open when tailgate is open? according to the diagram I have and I'm not saying it's complete the switch should be open when the tailgate is shut, all electrics are negative switching and how did you come to the conclusion that it is open?

The negative switching is what's got GOD to think that the switch is open when the tailgate is open!
This still gets me confused! Even trying to explain what's going on with GOD's setup has me confused, all I do know is that its the negative switching that's got him stumped...
