Brumby alternator issue

Hi all, I have what might be a dumb question for you. I have been having electrical issues with my brumby in the form of the battery going flat rapidly, i have put a known good battery in and the same thing has happened. I started the car today and removed the terminals to test what output the alternator was giving and it was reading 9 - 10 volts.. i did the same test on my l series and it tested 14.5 which sounds more like its meant to be to me. could it be possible that my alternator in the brumby is cactus and is shorting somehow and when its not running it is running the battery flat?

sounds like you found the problem and just needs some thinking....it is not enough to give your battery the correct charge. I'd say it needs new bits. Try proving it to yourself by swapping alternators between your two cars and watch the L develop same symptoms your brumby is displaying. Not shorting just not working correctly.

remove the + off the battery and test the amps from the battery and the + terminal and see what amps if it is pulling more then 0.05 then your alternator is RS it will test your rectifier .
just remember do not have the key turn on so have the key is removed it will give u a good reading .

How do you test if the regulator is the cause of the problem?

Found that the alternator was irractically charging even getting up to 17volts at high revs and as low as 13 at low revs. It was also drawing 2.5amps out of the battery when not going so went and picked up a second hand alternator for $50 and now she runs a hell of alot better!
