L Series interior lights >> MY

I may have known for some five years that an L series central interior light is used to replace the fairly poor performing one fitted to the Brumby or MY, had one for three years (mainly on my bench top too) and it took me just five minutes to remove two philips screws, measure the centres difference of just a millimetre and a bit, connect the wires up. It does not all seem to fit flush with the hood trim but sits down a bit at the back where the switch is. No matter as it looks good and the switch functions are smoother and throws good light.
So, my benchtop is cleaner and the old one that used a lid from a cylinder of potato chips for a lens - gone to the bin!
QUESTION: Has anyone been able to fit up the interior spotlights from an L Series near the mirror, to an MY or Brumby in the same spot as in L series ? I have poked a probe into the soft bulk of the hoodlining. It is deep enough and then some BUT there is a brace front to rear that is visible when you pull the rear interior light out of Brumby. It is not very deep, about 72mm wide so loks like it may clear the spot lights if fitted. Likely to be siliconed in place as I doubt any screw holes would be present
