If you know how and can explain or show diagram of how to hook up:

DRIVING lights switched on with HIGH beam and nothing else, on NEG switched subies (all of them by the looks) without using a manual switch.

Although a separate switch is required to switch ON/OFF from normal HIGH beam

and without using IGN on circuit to control them totally

I have found how to reverse polarity with one relay but that still won't stop them switching on driving lights when all lights are off - regardless of whether ignition is on or off

I JUST WANNA HOOK THINGS UP NORMAL - like my 84 Brumby?? they work normal?? or did I struggle this much with them?? ??????

Ah, so simple.

Take the wire that becomes the power to turn your relay on.
Take the wire that becomes the earth for your ground of the relay.

Switch the earth inside if you want an isolator switch.

(It is 1:40AM. I think I am thinking straight. Will double check my wiring in the later AM)

Still not understand your simple bit, however many times I read it, but thinking and looking at diagrams I think you mean:

use POS power from the headlights factory relay - the R wire at RIGHT headlight (or RL at LEFT headlight) connect this to pin 86 of new driving lights relay and connect the RW wire (the earth switching on wire for HIGH BEAM) to pin 85 (normally the earth)
if so, takes me three lines to say what Bruce says in 2 !

if this works the driving lights only when high beam is operational I will let you know, additional switching inside for later

EARTH for relay 85 came from the earth in RW wire at either left or right headlight
POWER + for relay 86 came from LH headlight RB (the top wire) It only gets 12volts+ with high beam

BUT the bugbear is this bloody high beam wire gets 1.3volts when on low beam which is enough to pull my relay on part # SY 4077 page 149 of Jaycar 2008 catalogue

Next thought was to add a switching relay 87a to switch power off to the relay when on low beam BUT low beam has power when also on high beam.

Still not concerned with internal mandatory on/off switch - I still cannot get driving lights to switch off when dipped to low!!


might try another relay, one that needs 12volts to pull in not 1.3 !!

Wire as follows...

Pin 30 -> + power form battery
Pin 87 -> + Side of driving lights

Pin 85 -> + Supply from back of head light
Pin 86 -> - Supply from back of head light.

To find the + & - on the headlight you will need a multi meter
DO NOT use the chassis as earth or you will get a false reading.

You need to find the - & the + in the headlight plug. It takes a little bit of time to find it.

Just put a switch between one of the wires that go to either pin 85 or 86..

I will try to find a diagram....

At least I'm not the only "electrically challenged" person on the forum.

thanks Xtreme_RX, if you have adiagram of one that works properly I will be thankful and amazed. I have studied factory wiring diagram and my testing of the wires using body as an earth sort of upports it all.

RW is the earth switched that has earth connected when all lights are off AND high beam switched on
RB is at the top this gets 12v pos power when high beam switched on, and 1.3v when just on low beams !?? this is causing current drama as it is pulling relay on for driving lights on low beam
RL is the wire with 12v pos for low beam

RHS
RW earth
RB at top for high beam pos 12v
R is low beam pos 12v power

Low beam seems to stay on when high beams are switched on. It is tricking me

answers provided elsewhere in this category were to keep wiring the way I have it and either use two diodes (I used jaycar ZR1007) in series like one after the other in correct orientation (the bands pointing towards relay) in the wire from HIGH beam to pin 86.

or Phizinza says to use a 100 Ohm resistor between pins 85 and 86 of the relay. Might try this one to see what I get
