Headlights question?

G'day ,

I have an 84MY Wagon Touring Wagon that I'm slowly doing up. Reco engine put in and 13" original sunraysias with new Pirellis.

It has the 4 headlight front. The headlights are ok I thought, but was told wouldn't pass a roadworthy as too dim/yellow. I was told it was the reflective silver in the actual headlight that was old.

Should I get some new headlights (and from where?) or all it need is some of those new Xenon bulbs?

Thanks in advance

Cheers!

Are they closed or can install new globes?

For a question I've been asking and no one seems to know - where can we get "re-chromed" on products! Not these cheap funeral handle chromes..

Cheers

If they are sealed beam you'll probably find the cause of your dim/yellow light is lack of power getting to the lights, with wiring and switches being more than 20 years old the will have deteriorated some what, I've heard of the actual voltage at the headlights being anything down to 8 volts as opposed to the 12-14 volts they should be.

Most people fit relays in just before the headlights, using the current wiring to switch the relays and the relays to switch a direct feed from the battery to the headlights.

The 4 headlight MY's use the same style of headlights as your older land cruisers (~80 series I believe) so they're a fairly common part and reasonably easy to get hold of the reflective casing to replace your current sealed beams, allowing you to fit xenons or whatever you see fit.

DO the double relay swap and see how they should work, parts should only be around $40-$50 for all the wiring and relay.
