Hey MY guru's - I need some help on the pin codes for a few MY engine plugs (the blue ones).

I've got one for an 88 brumby with auto choke and anti dieseling solenoid, total of 4 wires- this needs to fit an 84 touring wagon plug with tacho and no auto choke - totalling 5 wires...

I'm looking at making an adapotor plug from a second set of blue plugs I got from Gee, this way I can retain the brumby's engine wiring in original condition incase we ever want to change back to the old dash for some reason.

I'm wondering if I need to run the wire for the auto choke to the wire for the auto choke off solenoid, but how would this effect the anti dieseling solenoid?

Here are the engine plugs I've got:

Brumby plug - the one that the adaptor is being made for:



85 Brumby plug:



The one that Gee gave me:



On this angle the number's line up to be:

88 Brumby wire to stay as is:

________7 = yellow with black line____4 = solid blue wire - presumed to be power
2 = yelllow wire with green line____3 = black with white line -

#7 wire, yellow with black line is the oil pressure switch to turn off dash oil light

#2 wire, yellow wire with green line, seems to be temp sensor wire.

#3 wire, black with white line, goes to plug for auto choke and anti diesel solenoid in a 3 pin plug with the 3rd pin being the solid blue wire #4.

The 85 brumby plug looks like this:

____6 = Blue with white wire_______
______________7 = yellow with black wire
____2 = yellow with green wire_____3 = black with while wire

The one from Gee, origin unknown:

______6 = Blue with white wire_______5 = solid black wire
_____________7 = yellow with black wire
______2 = yellow with green wire_____3 = black with white wire


And the loom that has to match the 88 brumby wiring is the same as what Gee's wiring has above. The problem between the brumby wiring and Gee's wiring is that Gee's wiring doesn't have an auto choke in the wiring, but has 3 flat female pins and two round female pins, colours are:

Flat female pins:
- yellow with green wire
- yellow with black wire
- black solid wire

Round female pins:
- blue with white wire
- black with white wire

Brumby 88 wiring has:

2 flat female pins:
- yellow with black line - oil
- yellow with green line - temp sensor

3 pin plug
- 2 pins black with white line
- 1 pin solid blue.

What I need to know is which wire in Gee's wiring is power, and what are the other couple of plugs for? I'm presuming that there is no oil warning light due to the oil pressure guage - which i've got the pressure sender unit for...

Anyone that can help out, your info would be greatly appreciated.

After that thread it got me thinking - these are only wires for the guages and the auto choke (which we can live without for a little bit).

So, we can still drive the car but won't know the temp or if the oil stops flowing - which shouldn't be a problem.

"Game plan" now is to fit the dash display shown in Sunnie the brumby then work out the wiring as the power wire will be the interesting one - The other wires on the other looms is for the maunal choke Off solenoid using a seond temp sensor some where on the maifold.

I'm hoping the blue wire with the white line is a power wire in the loom, otherwise I guess I'll run one separetly. Doing it this way will allow me to slowly work out which is which...

if u dont connect the auto choke or jam it open somehow be prepared for crappy acelleration and a fuel mileage of somewere near 250km per tank ive been there and done that it sucks

Thanks for that mattl200. I've driven without the auto choke on for almost 200km now and there's no worry there, its just a little cranky when cold. It also won't idle as the anti dieseling soleniod isn't connected - I think thats what it is...

I've checked out the two dash looms, the one going in has space for a manual choke with auto shut off And the power wire I've been looking for... the brumby's out going dash doesn't have this wire for the manual choke auto shut off.

So hopefully in an hour or so I'll be Sunnie's currently all stripped out - I found out this morning that the windscreen rubber leaks - we re-used the old one. So all the mats are out getting dried while I'm on here then later looking for the elusive shed vacuum cleaner to clean out 20 years of dirt, rock and dust...

Hopefully there will be no wire swapping under the bonnet or in the pin connectors.

So, after all the discussion above the car is running fine with just the dash changed, its using the brumby's original under bonnet loom. The only guage not working is the oil pressure guage as I have not put the oil pressure sender unit in yet.

There are two differences between the dashboards and the car's operation, the first being the most important:

1) The fuel pump does not prime and cut out after a second or two with the sports dash - was this not a feature of the early MY vehicles? I cannot find a relay box under the dash that's not under the other, there are only differences in the indicator relay box, the earlier MY sports dash has a round cylinder type relay, the brumby's old dash had a black rectangular box. Could it be that the indicator relay box was also the fuel pump cut off relay?

2) When in 4wd or 4wd Low there are no lights on the dash display to say so. Is this the way it is with these dashboards or is there something i've missed?

Any help on that would be great.

PS the dash looks sweet! Just gotta get the rest of the car back together to drive to benders tomorrow...

All well now - oil pressure sender unit installed and working well.
