HELP - Troubleshooting EJ20G in RX Leone

Post by ToyRX » Mon May 19, 2008 9:52 am

Ok,

Got the rally car back in one piece and am trying to get it running.
Now I am not a sparkie, or even remotely that way inclined so I took the car to a mate that is, problem is he is a soobie newby so while he is very clued up he is not familure with this loom/engine.

Anyway this is what I can gather.
We have injector pulse so we must have TB and crank angle sensor working..
We have power to the computer and we seem to have power and signal to the ignitor. Problem is we have no spark at any of the plugs. We have checked the coils and they are fine.
Given that ignitors normally only fail on one or two cylinders we should be getting spark on one plug at least, yeah? We are sourcing a ignitor to try and eliminate this one but we are thinking there is a problem with the loom.
All the wiring diagrams we have pulled of the net dont match the exact loom we have so we are struggling a bit to identify the problem.
So some Q's
1) Do any of you guys have a wiring diagram for a JDM 91 GT Legacy EJ20G
2) Any pointers on where we should be looking for the fault?

Cheers.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions for solving the problem (a bit out of my league with regards to wiring!) but I think the wiring diagram you need might be buried somewhere in this PDF...
http://finnie.id.au/Liberty/1992_Legacy_W-M.pdf

It's about 6 different workshop manuals and thousands of pages which are not indexed properly so it might take a while of digging through.

Blatent stupidity........

would you believe that the ignitor input and AFM are exactly the same 5 pin plug, and even harder to believe, if you plug them in the wrong way round the engine won't start!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

This is probably only a potential issue on conversions where the two plugs are close enough together to allow the loom to fit either way.

Still - happy it was a simple fix not a deeper loom issue.

Once I swapped the plugs over the engine which had not gone for 15mths started first crank on three cylinders!! I was so excited by my dumbass find that I forgot to put the sparkplug back in before trying it!! LOL
