Brumby head lights

I got an 89 Brumby and want to put better head lights in it. Current ones are a bit dull 65/55 watt and want something with a bit more wattage. Anyone out there done this? It's the single rectangle sealed beam.

Had a look at this a while ago, can get h4 replacement lights but i think they were quite costly, having another look tho lately, Some of the toyota ones ie hiace and hilux look about the same size but havnt made sure yet... then hids...

The word on the street is to re-wire them so that the switches in the dash activate relays to give them power.

Yep, I had the sealed beams changed to halogens a few years ago.

IPF halogen headlight inserts (available from any ARB outlet) fit perfectly. I also bought the IPF loom and am using Osram 130/90 bulbs.

This combination gives an excellent low and high beam. Haven't bothered fitting auxillary driving lights because the headligh upgrade works so well.

Alternative items are Hella or Cibie headlight inserts; Pirahna superloom kit or auto electrician custom job; IPF fatboy or xenon globes.

I fitted Phillips H4 +50% globes into my L series just the other day. Pretty good white light over the standard globes. The only problem is that i have two different globe mountings on the left and right side. Left side had an aftermarket globe and my new Phillips went in fine, the right side had what looks like a factory globe and the Phillips was slightly smaller and didn't fit. I imagine that the R/H has had a smash and a different headlight has been put in with possibly an older style globe? Anyway some bending sorted it out.
