98 wrx wiring harness into 96 gx impreza

Post by gx_rex » Tue Oct 24, 2006 6:13 pm

hey just wondering if anyone knows my best option here. I have a 98 wrx engine with no loom or ecu and want to put into a 96 gx impreza. I can get a 98 loom and ecu to match the motor but the harness is going to be different in the dash as 96 is pre facelift. 96 harness wont run a 98 motor either. i am wondering if i was to get the 98 harness, is it as easy as cutting the plugs for instrument cluster off my existing harness and joining to it or are there likely to be other probs with doing this?
any help would be appreciated...

Get the 98 ecu and loom and chase up a 98 dash also and problem solved

There shouldn't be any real problems with this except it would be quite messy running two harnesses. Definitely converting the car to `98 for everything including the dash would be the more desired outcome.
