Steering wheel controls
Steering wheel controls
I've got a my08 liberty premium , I've installed a new stereo/cruise control on the steering wheel (premium did not come with it ) needless to say the stereo controls do not operate the stereo , seems I'm missing something
Any one got any ideas how to get it working
Thanks Steve

Hi Steve
Welcome to the forum! My Forester has the controls from factory, so they are working, but I know there is an 8 pin plug that includes 2 wires for these controls. So you may want to check:
1) If your radio unit has that input
2) if the wires from the steering wheel are connected
There's a whole lot more about compatibility of these controls with the unit. I'm assuming you've got both from Subaru?
Cheers
Pedro.

Hi there and thank for the welcome
Yep radio is the stock Macintosh that came with the car Steering wheel controls are the standard controls that come with the turbos so Subaru must use a different wire loom between models , I thought they would only have one type. What I need to know is there a way of connecting the radio to the controls with our spending $1150 on a new wiring loom that subaru have quoted me (supply only) any ideas Would be much appreciated
Thanks Steve

So did you install just the buttons to your steering wheel, or a new steering wheel?
Does the clock wheel behind the steering wheel have the required contacts for your new wheel?
Here is an image from the 2008 Legacy FSM showing the Roll Connector/Clockwheel connections

As you can see, the steering wheel controls plug into the steering wheel with a flat 8 pin connector (ST3) and then the roll connector joins into the dash wiring loom with a 2 row 14 pin connector (B68 )
Check to see if you have these

No just installed the control parts into my steering wheel , plugged the harness back it the the plug and crossed my fingers , from reading another forum my car my08 should have just been a case of plug and play , which has not been the case ,now I need to find a way to get it to work ,each time I look at it , the steering wheel ,I see a simple mod that I've failed at. I just need to find someone who know what their doing to see if it's possible to get it to work, somehow ,someway, you know of anyone ????
