error 24 air control valve???

Post by gazcull » Thu May 10, 2012 8:56 pm

hi on my 88 l series with a 94 rs turbo motor i keep getting this random check engine light come up, to be honest its been there since i've owned the car (two years), but when i did the error read thing it comes up no errors, but one day as soon as the check engine light came on i stopped did the necessary and finally got the code 24. looking through the early error codes 24 means air control valve or circuit, what is the air control valve? and why am i getting these random errors? please help the workshop manual mentions air bypass valve is it that?, cheers for any advice

Its the thing on the number 4 cylinder intake runner (passenger side rear) and has a light brown top.

It is a rotary valve with a 2 way solenoid that allows the ECU to control how much air bypasses the throttle and control idle speed.

They quite often gum up with oily residue and get stuck. I had a code 24 last week with my RS engine and it wasnt actually the valve, it was the throttle cable was too short and the engine was revving too high so the ECU thought the IACV was to blame.

Does you car have an unsteady idle?
