99 Outback Security System

Post by S~Eddy » Thu Apr 14, 2011 8:24 pm

Hey Guys,

It would be a great help if you could tell me if this is a fault.

On my 1999 Subaru Outback, If I were to lock the door using the keyless entry remote. Then proceed to unlock the car with my mechanical key, then open the door, the alarm goes off (without a horn or sound). The indicators just flash until a response from the keyless remote. The ignition will not respond at all while this alarm has gone off. What should the car do? I had the door lock fixed recently and would like to know if this has been completed properly or needs to be taken back The person who fixed assures me that there is no fault, but I am not convinced.

Cheers for helping!

I don't know the system (my outback just has the immobiliser) but it sounds like the key isn't communicating with the car through the door lock. If you turn the alarm off with the remote and then wait for the immobiliser to come on (10 seconds, i think - the key shaped light on the dash starts flashing) and then put the key in, does the light go off and the car start?

The key should communicate with the immobiliser through the ignition switch (and so i presume it should through the door, too). If when you do the above the car works i'd look into the door lock. If it doesn't work maybe the key is buggered? The remote does its thing, but not the key.

I dunno, this is guess work haha

Is this an aftermarket alarm or a genuine subaru fitted one?
