Brumby Headlights

G'day there,
well I'm sure that there is a thread that covers my problem( no not the brain that has already been diagnosed as deficient).
What has happened is that when headlights are on and switched to high beam, after about 1 minute the lights go out but if I switch back to low I still have low operating this happened a few times and now I just have low and no high when switched the prince of darknes strikes.
I've taken the lights out and checked them all and they work, I've removed and replaced all the earth connections I can locate but still to no avail.
My thoughts are perhaps it is in the combination turn and dipper switch on the steering column.
Oh my Brumby is a 92 quad headlight model with what appears to be H4 in the high/low outer and H1 in the inner high beam.

Hylton my brumby was doing the exact same thing for months, intermittently the headlights would drop out in either high or low beam.

the contacts in my hi lo switch were covered in patina (for want of a word, not quite corroded but covered) once it was all cleaned up it has worked way better. I put a light coating of singer sowing oil on all the brass to stop future patination from occuring.

EDIT
check the main connector for the headlight wiring, it is under the dash after the connectors that plug into the combination turn and dipper switch on the steering column. there is one terminal in that connector that can come loose and stop the lights from working.

had same problem in my old Mazda 1300 wagon running twin round headlights instead of single like Brumby and 100w spotties without a relay - of course it happened on a black night when out deep searching for a beautiful xmas tree under power lines - drove home under the light of hazards. Too much load on switch, installed relays and job done

:D Well buggered if I know what I did but after a lot of disconnecting and reconnecting plus the high beam is working good again.
I now feel much better about selling Scamp with that little prob sorted.
Although I still wish that having to sell her was not an option but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

You have GOT to get some sort of Subaru to replace the Brumbys ! - Please !

That way the cookie doesnt crumble too much :mrgreen:
