Some of the slim uniden models have the option of a flush mounting bracket and surround kit that will mount it into your dash pocket and look almost factory, depending on your dash colour.

Just by the way, I installed a UHF 40 channel in my brumby the other week. Trouble is, I can't turn it on here in Toowoomba with the missus in the car with all the rot that is on it. Do other areas have the same problem. Suppose its everywhere. The other day, a bloke was being named as a paedophile and the guy being accused was on the other end going for it. The language, (and I'm no angel) had my paint peeling off.

I'm getting off topic here but yea, its very dissappointing. I did a good install and it looks the goods, but I hardly ever have it on because of the absolute drivel and obscene trash on it. I'll keep it in, but was hoping to have an odd chat to someone. We used them a lot out west, and they were pretty clean cos most people knew who you were and they were a necessity. my 2cents...sorry for hijacking the thread. thanks

You can actually get a UHF with a remote face so you can mount them almost anywhere then hide the rest of the unit behind the dash I think the first one I had was a uniden 3400 untill it was stolen but the one I have now is a bit thicker but has a built in scanner!
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.
