EJ swap - no spark ??

Did the engine swap ok but this wiring is really starting to get to me !!!!
Engine cranks but won't start - no spark. Have power going to igniter, injectors etc so the ecu is functioning, just no spark.
Coincidentally there are 2 connectors not plugged in, I have no idea where they go. I have been thru every wiring diagram that I can find but none show these connectors. Both come thru the middle of the firewall and sit at the back of the engine.
One is a 6 pin plug with five wires orange blackred whiteblack brownyellow and blackyellow. The only orange wire I can find in the diagrams is the M/T neutral switch from the ecu. The other is a 2 pin plug, one red other black.
If anyone can help with info on these plugs and/or lack of spack it would be greatly appreciated

i just completed my ej conversion with alot of help. this may sound stupid but one of those plugs wernt of the coil pack are they. if so do you have power to that plug

No its not the coil pack plug, wish it was, that would make it extremely easy

i had a simular problem when i cut mine, it had me scratching my head for a while. i can't recall the wires but you need to join two together to get spark (well i had to) that part of my harness didn't have power for some reason.

oh and i also have the two extra plugs they are not required one i think is cpc (or something like that to do with the evap/purge fuel line) can't recall what the other is.

and i have about 3 months on my conversion with no problems.

Thanks Shuffbag. Had been feelin a bit disheartened but at least now I have something to aim for.
Have to get this going cause I'm goin on holidays in 2 weeks.

i had no fancy tools just a test light and i think it was some wire from the ignition relay??? i connected power to two wires (on the ej loom) which i thought needed constant power (when the ing was on) one of those gave me spark and the other put constant power to the injectors, which floods the engine lol. befor this the computer/pump/injectors all had power just no spark.

i think i had a cheesy grin for 2 days after the first start, the gf would have to drag me away from the car so i would stop stareing at it

Sorry Ben - ej22 is an 89.

Stamp Licker - yes I replaced the timing belt, please don't tell me I stuffed it up, i'll cry

made sure I used the right timing marks (second time round

), turned the engine a cupla times and the marks lined up perfectly

Shuffbag - yeah I had to supply power to a cupla wires already (neutral switch, fuel relay wire) so I guess another one won't hurt - lol

yeah i added it from within the ej harness just bridged 2 with a short lenght of wire. the ea2ej pdf helped me out alot, i think i got it off usmb

there are two marks on the crank.it will still line up but won't fire,been there done that.

regardless of timing it will still spark, not run but it will spark.

it is ej loom related i had the same problem alittle head scratching is all thats required

Did you strip the loom yourself?

When doing the timing did you line up the arrow or the notch?

Gday SWK. Did the loom myself but haven't cut anything out yet, waiting till its running before I start trimming. And yes I set the timing to the notch not the arrows - second time round

realised my mistake and set it properly. But as shuffbag pointed out, timing belt incorrect will still produce spark, just at the wrong time.

I really need some help now, I am going on holidays in 10 days but the ej swap has not moved forward - I still have no spark

This is the situation :-
Pulled an engine and loom out of an 89 liberty, actually drove the car to my brothers place to do the work so it was working fine.

After extracting eng & loom my brother decided to get rid of the car while I was away so lots of parts went with it.

Decided to do the swap at my work - engineering workshop - plenty of tools overhead crane etc.

Engine in, new belts plugs filters etc - started on the wiring.

Loom still whole, decided to get the car running before I trimmed.

Hooked the EMS loom up & tried to start the motor, no spark, & that is still the case.

I have checked everything I can think of, but no joy.

Power to ecu pins B12 A2 & A13
All ecu ground pins ok
Crank & cam sensors both putting out around .35 volts
Igniter checks out - alternating 0-3v durin cranking
Coil resistance fine
Power to coils at 12.5v during cranking
Fuel fine

But if I take a spark plug out & check - no spark:(:(:(:(

Will the m/t nuetral switch stop the engine cranking or not allow it to spark?
What else would stop spark?

HELP !!!!

those plugs you couldnt hook up.
im thinking Transmission out fo Liberty,
or Cruise Control

First think you need to do is read any codes it may have.

tha things that stop spark form what im thinking atm are
Cam, and Crankshaft sensors
Igniter
Coil Packs

i should hope the Nuetral switch would stop it cranking altogether (coz if its in gear and try n crank the car will still move when clutch is engaged)

from what else i know. the cam and crank sensors should fluctuate voltage when engine is cranking.

also make sure to check for spark out of the coil.

Cam, Crank, Igniter & Coil all test as per the manual.
Coil resistence and feed in are what they should be.

I just dont know what to try next

so is there spark out of the coils? ie may not be getting through the Leads.

also codes?? sometimes the ECU will detect as it sits and your trying to start it wether something is wrong and will throw that code at you.

i think the black ones need connecting for that

Thought of the leads but the resistence within the coil pack is as per the book and the car drove b4 i pulled the engine so it would be really strange 4 the leads to all suddenly go.

I haven't wired in the dash yet so Check Engine Light isn't working.
Thats probably a smart thing to do next.

You can check the codes by looking at the ecu,it has a light built in.
